Welcome to our website. I hope you enjoy the articles we have posted here as a taster of what our magazine offers. Modern English Teacher has been around since the 1970s and it still sets out to do the same things each issue. First and foremost we encourage teachers to share their ideas, their observations and their solutions. Every teacher sees things happening in their classroom and finds ways to make it better. One person’s little idea can make a huge difference in someone else’s teaching situation. So don’t hesitate to send suggestions for articles.
The second thing we try and do is look at some of the major themes affecting ELT from as many points of view as we can, looking at them not only in the primary classroom but the secondary and adult ones as well and in as many different countries as possible. We have recently looked closely at assessment, EAP and technology and in future issues we will look at vocabulary, materials writing and new methodologies.
Our final objective each issue is to offer help in professional development. Teachers have very long working days and are often quite isolated from colleagues. Our magazine tries to offer ways of becoming self-reliant in terms of in-service training, whether through reviewing new materials and background books, suggesting tips and tools for training, or simply by reading an article or two. If the articles you read here you find interesting then you will definitely enjoy the magazine and access to the complete archive. In the meantime, have a look at Future Issues and see if there is anything you would like to write about.
