Escape games: breaking out of boring lessons

Escape games (EGs) have become a popular entertainment phenomenon over the last decade or so. I wonder what you envision when you think of one. Is it a physical room full of puzzles and clues that you and your friends need to escape as quickly as possible … if you can get organised and work well together?
