It pays to learn a second language as a teacher

In this vlog post for Pavilion ELT, Damien Herlihy starts season three of his ELT Vlog Series. With the release of the new look Modern English Teacher in 2022, he’s decided to focus on the theme of each issue. Each episode will offer some highlights from that theme and then Damien will relate those ideas to his own teaching context. We hope that you’ll be able to do the same – no matter where you are in the world!

In this first episode, he looks at the theme ‘Starting Afresh’ and focuses on the article “It Pays to Learn” by George Murdoch. The article looks at the benefits of language teachers learning a second language (or third or a fourth…).

You can also take a look at a recent vlog from our other Pavilion ELT vlogger, Rubens Heredia, in which he shares 5 tips based on his own experiences as a language student.

How is Damien’s news series making you reflect on your own teaching? Let us know in the comments under the vlog or below our shares on the Pavilion ELT social media!
