Letter to my younger self

I remember exactly where you are now and how you’re feeling. It’s March 2000 and you’ve recently moved to Goiania, in Brazil, having spent the last years working in tourism in the north-east of the country. After leaving your CV at lots of travel agencies to no avail, you’re standing in front of a language school, located above a video rental store, pondering whether to try your luck there. ‘Why would they want you?,’ you’re asking yourself. Yeah, you’re a Brit on paper, but you’ve lived most of your life in Brazil . . .
