In this vlog post for Pavilion ELT, Damien Herlihy turns his focus to the latest issue of the Modern English Teacher (Issue 32.2, March/April 2023). The theme is ‘young adults’.

In this episode, he looks at the article, To drill or not to drill? by Eric Nicaise. Damien starts by discussing the ELT pendulum and what drilling can bring to the classroom. He then moves on to look at five practical examples of drilling techniques that can be used in the classroom to great effect.

In other words, drilling can have a place in the language classroom and can be used effectively to improve your learners’ skills.
