Don’t be fooled: the poverty of AI language training

Simple maths: subscribe to an AI platform to learn a language in just a few weeks – or take the longer, more expensive route with a real-life teacher? No brainer, right? Choose the cheaper AI alternative.

Wrong – and there is no comparison. Quick fix language-learning methodologies that have inundated the internet this millennia are packet soups, ready-made meals, ladling formulaic phrases down gullets whilst teaching nothing about engaging in conversational discourse. In the mid-21st century, this now equally applies to language learning AI software. Indeed, if all that is required is some stock expressions to get by . . .
